The workshops are designed to be fun and positive experiences whilst covering a range of dynamic speaking and dramatic skills – including public speaking, debating, presenting to camera, poetry and prose speaking, prepared and sight reading, Bible reading, vocal expressiveness, mime, improvisation and scripted drama. Workshops run from mid February to November.  There is the opportunity to gain qualifications in Communication Skills and Public Speaking, or Theatre Skills (SpeechNZ and Trinity College). These can be sat in pairs, groups, or as individuals. Diploma studies (university level) are offered in year 13. Our students achieve well. In 2023 we had a 95% pass rate at Honours and Distinction levels. Exam fees are extra costs. We aim to showcase the learning in a Parent Showcase at least once a year. Students gain confidence in expressing and presenting themselves well, develop vocal expressiveness and clarity of voice, integrity and respect, memory training, teamwork, co-operation, perseverance, diligence, tolerance and judgement.  There is no doubt that having a confident, expressive and artistic voice is an asset in today’s world.

Exam Success
How wonderful to again have outstanding results – in what was a challenging COVID year. Distinction results aplenty, with our top Trinity marks 96% Josh Wang (ACG) and 94% Seren Spicer (DIO). Honours Plus in SpeechNZ – there were 15 of you with that fantastic grade, and nearly everyone else Honours. Congratulations to the ZOOM candidates: Allen Weng, Nadia Horne and Ruby Hulme who all passed with Honours Plus.

ATCl diploma results – were also outstanding – considering COVID. 12 DISTINCTION grades, including two diplomas gained by Callum Peacock who sat both Speech and Drama (91) , as well as Public Speaking (92) in the same week! Congratulations Amelie Thomas (DIO). Four Pass grades – from students stepping up from Acting in Pairs – a difficult transition. So well done – all of you. .

Looking forward to seeing many of you again this year. There are many of you choosing to go up a grade for this year without sitting last year – no worries! You’ve got this!
And – breaking news – I am on the NAPTA judging panel again this year.

Broadwayworld.com review Feb 22, 2020

Dolphin Theatre’s production of Roger Hall’s LAST LEGS is delivered with a fresh authenticity through cleverly crafted attention to every aspect of the production. Director Glenda Pearce is known for her attention to detail and she has successfully replicated the realism of the retirement village, highlighting the atmosphere and the experiences of the diverse characters who live there. The clever marriage of technologies and stagecraft ensures there is a perfect balance of action and pace which is better delivered than I have seen in there productions. This is a delight. Don’t miss it.

2019 was a superb examination year, with 90% of all Trinity candidates gaining Distinction grades! A special congratulations to the 10 ATCL candidates, 9 of whom gained this qualification with Distinction! An outstanding 95% for ATCL was gained by Lauren Dunne, and 89% by Olivia Maxwell. Zoe Hooten got 98% for Grade 3 individual as well as a Distinction in Group Drama. Charlotte Stokes got 95% for Grade 4 and there were many marks in the 90s. Well done everyone! SpeechNZ grades were also Honours and Honours Plus – so all in all, a very successful year, testament to your commitment and talent!
